(Orienteer) Show Me the Body returns with a new single and music video, "Dance In The USA." The song arrives as the band has been hinting at the release of their 4th studio album, an anticipated follow-up to 2022's celebrated Trouble The Water.
The single was produced by the odd couple duo of Klas Ã…hlund (Robyn, Ghost) and Kenneth Blume III (Geese, Fcukers), who were introduced to one another by the band for sessions last year at Blume's Southern California studio Putnam Hill.
"Dance In The USA" also arrives with a Jake Moore-directed music video that celebrates the different rhythmic fabrics of America and the physics of human movements. Known for their visceral, chaotic live performances, the track carries that same weighty call to action heard across those rooms: "MOVE!"
"'Dance In The USA' is about how we implore style to survive in this reality. It's how we embrace the struggle of ourselves, our family's, and those around you. It's the dance that we all do - how we hustle, the good and the bad things we do - just to get through it." - Julian Cashwan Pratt
The song itself recontextualizes Show Me the Body's core language, revealing more focus, urgency, and clarity than ever before. Both literal and subversive, the dance represents the struggle of living "like a dog on a string" and the response: style and movement. "It's a fool's game, but I ain't one to lose" goes the lyric.
Ahead of the single, Show Me the Body's Julian Cashwan Pratt launched a series of conversations in which he speaks with "a few of my best friends, creative peers, and mentors about life, loss, family, community, art, and praxis." The series is called "Alone Together" and was directed by Nicolas Heller (New York Nico). Episodes 1 & 2 with Dracula O. / Chi and Kasie Kirkland AKA Yung Mayne, respectively, are now available on the Show Me the Body YouTube page and Spotify.
The band heads out on a West Coast North American tour around their performance at Kilby Block Party next month that will see them hit 8 cities with support from Provoker, Ingrow, Clique, and Dry Socket. Later in the summer, the band will make the rounds in the UK and Europe, playing select festival dates and supporting Deafheaven on a run of shows as well.
