(Volume Four Communications) Renowned punk-rocker CJ Wildheart, best known as a founding member of legendary rock band The Wildhearts, has released his new lead single, "One of the Boys".
The track gives a poignant and raucous taste of his upcoming eighth solo album DEViL. The album is available to pre-order now until its official release on June 26th.
True to his punk n' roll roots, "One of the Boys" is a reflective track about an older artist looking back on a lifetime in music and all the successes and mistakes made along the way. Described by CJ as a potential "swan song," the single delivers his signature blend of energy and raw honesty. A clean radio edit of the track is also available for airplay.
"I'll be honest, I really struggled with this one, not so much writing it, but trying to find the drive," CJ explains. "Each year it gets harder to survive as an independent artist, and I always put in 100 percent into everything I do and this time round I came so close to just stopping. I am so thankful I didn't, as I poured my frustrations into this album and my passion, I believe shines through".
CJ plays and records most of the instruments himself, while DEViL features thunderous drums provided by Jason Bowld (Bullet For My Valentine) and has been mixed by CJ and his long-term collaborator and friend Dave Draper. The album will also be released by a Japanese label as a special double album featuring J-Card slots and five bonus tracks.
CJ's enduring influence on the UK punk scene has recently been celebrated at the Gibson Garage London, where his 1989 Gibson B.B. King Lucille guitar ("Lucy") was on loan for their special Punk Exhibition.
CJ Wildheart will be playing select shows in May*, with plans for a wider tour in September. Pre-orders for DEViL are running now through the June 26th release date.
