(Super Cat) Psychedelic London trio The Stingrays release new single 'Summer of You'. Creating a multi-dimensional world via their pin-point sonics and aesthetic, The Stingrays aim to capture the humour and silliness of outsider art through the lens of experienced song writing and years of musical brotherhood between the three members - Hector Delicious, George van den Broek and Milo Goldsmith.
In equal parts they mock and celebrate all things quaint and British - both touching and ridiculous, brash and gentle, their kaleidoscopic approach is a full year of seasons.
New single 'Summer of You' plays into this - a relaxed groover for the most part, it bursts into screeching life with a breakneck guitar solo for the final portion of the song. Regarding the themes of the track the band say:
"Summer Of You is a song about melancholy around heartbreak and new beginnings. The need to move on from a person or a 'summer' despite its warmth and light. Saying that although the summer is a lovely time, it has to come to an end and give way to the next season, as is only natural. That all good things must come to an end no matter how much you don't want them to."
The interplay between band members, which ranges from the taut, precise opening groove into the spiralling wig-out sections, is no accident. The three-piece have been playing together for around a decade now, having toured the world since the ages of 16 under the guise of lead vocalist George Van Den Broek's moniker Yellow Days.
To further hone their craft, the band initially held a sold-out summer residency on Brick Lane in East London - echoing their spiritual forebears dues-paying periods hustling away in clubs. A recent acclaimed set at Live At Leeds further evidence of this.
