(IC) GRAMMY award-winning, multi-platinum artist Olivia Rodrigo releases "serena joy" globally, following the track's exclusive physical debut on CD at Analog Records in Orange County, California last Friday.
The one-store physical release marked the first opportunity for local fans to discover "serena joy," just eight days ahead of Daisy Chain Fields, Rodrigo's sold-out music festival taking place August 29th at Great Park in Irvine, California.
Written by Olivia Rodrigo and longtime collaborator Dan Nigro during the sessions for Rodrigo's third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, "serena joy" is punk in spirit: angsty, urgent and rooted in protest energy. Its release in the lead-up to Daisy Chain Fields is especially fitting, as the festival brings together an all-women lineup of groundbreaking artists, nonprofit organizations, and a community united in support of women and girls. A portion of net proceeds from "serena joy" will be donated to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund.
The physical debut of "serena joy" at Analog Records was an ode to the festival and the Orange County community that will soon welcome it. It also continued Rodrigo's longstanding support of independent record stores and the communities around them. Most recently, nearly 200 independent record stores nationwide hosted midnight sale events celebrating the release of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, marking the largest Record Store Day-organized midnight sale in at least a decade.
With "serena joy" available globally today, fans everywhere can listen to the new track, which Rodrigo will perform live for the first time at Daisy Chain Fields on Saturday, August 29th.
