(BHM) M.O.T.H.E.R. - the new project led by British musician Robbie Furze (The Big Pink, Panic DHH), bringing together a circle of long-time friends and collaborators - makes its arrival today with the premiere of its self-titled debut EP, M.O.T.H.E.R., available now via Fullaway Records.
Conceived as an open, evolving project driven by Furze rather than a fixed band, M.O.T.H.E.R. is built around a shared creative history, with contributors shaping the music as it unfolds in the spirit of iconic groups such as N.E.R.D., UNKLE, and Massive Attack. This first release captures an initial moment of collaboration, while future installments are set to expand and shift - with different voices, line-ups and directions still to come. With contributions from longtime friends Jamie Hince (The Kills) and Jamie T, the four-track EP sees Furze fuse anthemic pop songcraft with supersized hooks and sharp-edged sonic invention, resulting in a singularly exciting approach all its own.
"M.O.T.H.E.R. is a project that responds and adapts to what's happening in the moment," says Robbie Furze. "This EP came from losing my mother, and everything around it grew out of that, a band of brothers coming together. The next release will be a completely different color and approach."
Released in full today via Fullaway, the debut EP captures the result of the project's first sessions. Across four tracks, it balances a sense of scale and immediacy - anthemic songs that still have heart - carrying traces of its collaborators' musical past while forming something uniquely their own.
Highlights include the explosive lead track, "MY LOVE," joined today by an enigmatic official music video, directed by Madrid-based AI visual artist YZA Voku, streaming now. Whether this exact trio returns for future releases remains to be seen, but the foundation has been set.
"'MY LOVE' reads like a love story," says Furze. "But it came from losing my mother and having my daughter at the same time, just trying to hold onto hope, because love is everything and all around. It sings like a hymn.
"'MY LOVE' faces the cracks head-on yet celebrates what endures," Furze adds. "Even as things fall, some love stands unbroken, and it's worth rejoicing."
