(Scoop) Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MoFi), the leader in high-fidelity audio reissues, is proud to release the first-ever audiophile editions of Harry Chapin's commercial breakthrough and '74 folk-rock staple and generational touchstone, Verities & Balderdash.
The album is available for order at mofi.com as a numbered-edition 180g 33RPM LP strictly limited to 3,000 copies, and as a numbered-edition Hybrid SACD strictly limited to 2,000 copies.
Sourced from the original master tapes (ΒΌ" / 15 IPS Dolby A analog master to DSD 256 to analog console to lathe), the vinyl edition is pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing in California and housed in a premium Stoughton jacket complete with a four-page insert. The Hybrid SACD is presented in elegant mini-LP-style gatefold packaging.
While "Cat's in the Cradle" reached No. 1 in 1974, its true measure is found in its lasting impact. So enduring that it became the subject of a 2025 documentary in which artists from multiple generations weigh in on its influence, the Grammy Hall of Fame inductee remains the main event of Verities & Balderdash. Captured during a golden era for sonics and production, the Top 5 effort features remarkable tonal balance, instrumental separation, and organic naturalism. These aspects come into supreme focus on these reissues, which play with dead-quiet surfaces and a low noise floor.
The newfound clarity, openness, and imaging underscore the lasting appeal of Chapin's tender deliveries, soulful timbre, and careful phrasing. Every word comes across with incredible realism, while his underrated guitar playing occupies its own distinctive space. Certified double platinum, Verities & Balderdash teems with situational devices and topical matters-from the romantic ballad "I Wanna Learn a Love Song" to the quirky "30,000 Pounds of Bananas"-establishing Chapin as one of the country's most incisive commentators.
