(B! Noticed) "The Blade," a fresh duet version, pairs The Voice Season 17 winner and upcoming The Voice: Battle of Champions contestant Jake Hoot with Jamie Floyd, a three-time GRAMMY nominated songwriter and independent artist. Releasing April 3rd, "The Blade" is available now for pre-save via a Tunespeak giveaway package here.
The spark for recording "The Blade" ignited during a 2024 Nashville performance when Jake joined Jamie onstage for an impromptu rendition. The audience response was immediate and powerful, revealing a dynamic that felt both timeless and newly urgent.
Produced by Canadian songwriter and producer Jimmy Thow (Ty Herndon, Ashley McBryde, LeAnn Rimes, Terri Clark, Kristin Chenoweth), this version honors the song's legacy while elevating it with soaring harmonies and modern production.
The release strategically aligns as Jake prepares for The Voice: Battle of Champions.
The song carries a decade of country music history. Originally recorded by Ashley Monroe and Miranda Lambert and co-produced by Vince Gill, the track became the title cut of Monroe's 2015 album, earned a GRAMMY nomination, and was named one of The New York Times' Top 10 Songs of the Year across all genres. Country icon Ronnie Dunn later recorded his own version for his album 100 Proof Neon, further cementing the song's legacy.
The recording was written by acclaimed songwriters Marc Beeson, Allen Shamblin, and Jamie Floyd, and produced at Hertz So Good Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. Instrumentation and programming were performed and recorded by Jimmy Thow, who handled guitars, bass, and all programming on the track, while renowned steel guitarist Travis Toy added his signature steel guitar performance to complete the production.
