Floyd Nation, the US-based Pink Floyd tribute band, just released their new single "Watching the Sunrise" from their forthcoming album Inner Light (out May 29, 2026). To celebrate we asked keyboardist and founding member Robert Harris to tell us about the song and the album. Here is the story:
Entering 2025, we were excited about the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd's album Wish You Were Here. Of course we had planned to perform the album in its entirety on tour like everyone else, but we felt the occasion warranted doing something extra special to celebrate this milestone.
We decided the best way to honor the art, legacy, and spirit of Pink Floyd would be to record the album in its entirety. And then we thought - why not do the recording in Studio 3 at Abbey Road... the same room where Pink Floyd had recorded this masterpiece 50 years earlier?
We put together a kickstarter campaign and met our goal in less than 48 hours thanks to our amazing and dedicated fan base. The highest level for the kickstarter campaign included joining the band at Abbey Road to watch the recording sessions take place. One of our premium level kickstarter sponsors even played bass guitar with us on a couple takes of our previous single "Have a Cigar."
As we were rehearsing the songs from Wish You Were Here to prepare for recording, we began to wonder if there was a way to extend the album and provide a complementary musical response to its themes of isolation, loss, and longing. What resulted was our forthcoming debut Inner Light and several original songs that would close out Wish You Were Here with a new point of view.
The single, "Watching The Sunrise," the final track of Inner Light, is an expression of hope for a better tomorrow. It turns isolation into togetherness, sadness into wonder, mourning into the promise of future connections, and transitions from waving goodbye to the "Crazy Diamond" to gathering together to watch a new beginning. It's that quiet moment when you realize the inner light was there all along. No matter how long the night feels we can always find our way back to the light by opening our eyes and watching the sunrise.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
