Los Angeles rockers seeTrees just released their new arena rock anthem "Lights Out In The City" and to celebrate we asked mastermind Drew Lawrence to tell us about the track. Here is the story:

"Lights Out in the City" was written with the intention of doing less. I wanted to create a song that only had 2 chords and one single phrase as the chorus. I'm always amazed how great writers have created songs with just one phrase, or in some cases, one word as the chorus! "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie and "Why" by Annie Lennox are some good examples.

As most of my writing happens, I had just come back from a long drive on the 395 along the Eastern Sierra after a few days in Mammoth Lakes, CA. I travel up to the high Sierra frequently to get out of the city and reconnect with nature as well as myself. I was really beginning my love affair with Sam Fender at this time and inspired by his soaring rock anthems. I was also fired up by reading Bob Dylan's "Chronicles" with all his brilliant, poetic beauty, draped in sarcasm and poignant observations.

I started thinking about how distracted our society is becoming and how it seems we're at risk of taking our eye off the ball. The US has in many ways been a beacon of hope, strong character and decency, a city on a hill. The song is meant to be an observation of hypocrisy and a sense of hope for a return to decency, without being polarizing. "Lights Out in the City" is one of my favorite songs to perform. We close our shows with it. It recalls the teenager in Seattle who was lucky enough to find an inspiring hero in Eddie Vedder.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
