Fullminator recently released their "Destroy Tokyo" album and to celebrate we asked Reptilian Deluxe to tell us about the song "99 Ninjas". Here is the story:
So, get this, we were playing our annual costume party on a fine Halloween weekend and we got a big turnout, everyone's dressed up, having fun. I noticed there were people that don't frequent metal shows either. Anyway, these ninjas that I had no clue would be so aggressive threw down some smoke bombs and started attacking us, long story short, I'm laying on the floor, half my face got sliced off with a katana. No ninjas or Omnipiece. Next thing I know, I woke up with this chunk of metal wrapped around my head, surrounded by the Fullmiboyz, they fixed my head but they were all drunk as hell!
Anyway, when I decided I'd write a song about it I was thinking heavily on what I wanted to emulate as a vocalist. I thought back on all those people at the show that I knew weren't in the metal scene, I decided I'd try to write this as if it was a rap song. Wrote a couple jabs to some bands/artists in that one, one was really unserious, the other one was totally sincere on my part, I'll let you decide which is which!
Personally, I'm proud of this one, particularly about the chorus and the more rap oriented verses, I think I was able to achieve a flow I haven't been able to get for a very long time. I always feel like I can do a lot more to improve my songwriting, and I convinced myself I'm growing as a lyricist with this song. Overall, it is about overcoming death and defeating your own 2,099 ninjas, whether they're in your head or they're literal ninjas!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
