Texas-bred rocker Cody Jasper just released his new single "Dirty" from his forthcoming album "Rock Is Dead" (out April 10th). To celebrate we asked Cody to tell us about the new track. Here is the story:
"Dirty" was one of those songs that came out of thin air. I wasn't holding a grudge or anything - I thought I had already gotten over that relationship. But when the chorus first hit me, it reminded me of all the anger and resentment that was still there from a total sh*tstorm of a relationship.
Once I had the title "Dirty," I knew exactly what I wanted the song to feel like. I wanted the production to sound dirty too - big fat synth subs, gritty guitar tones, and a filthy guitar solo.
I tried producing this song a bunch of different ways over a couple years and could never quite get it right. Thankfully when I brought it to Aleks Von Korff, he knew exactly what I was going for and absolutely nailed the production.
It's actually the only song on the album with electronic drums in the verses. It just fit because I'm almost rapping the verses... or maybe I actually am. Like the lyric says: "I thought about singing this song but I had too much to say." So, I pretty much had to rap it just to get it all out.
It ended up being one of my favorites on the album - mostly because of the production and the guitar tones. We had a lot of fun making this one.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself below and learn more here
