A hip Republican? You bet, The most unlikely of the 5 contenders for the Republican Presidential nomination this year did in fact take a stage drive at a recent campaign rally and was carried around the mosh pit by cheering supporters. Was it George W. Bush? Malcom "Steve" Forbes? Campaign Finance Reform McCain? Nope, it was the champion of family values and former ambassador Alan Keyes.
The subject of the said moshing came up at the Republican debates in New Hampshire on January 26th when George Bush asked Keyes, "What's it like to be in a mosh pit?"
Keyes quipped back, "It's a lot of fun actually. I enjoyed it," The fun ended there when Gary Bauer attacked Keys as having supported "anti-family, anti-cop and pro-terrorist" ideals of the music that inspired the stage dive. The band you ask? Rage Against the Machine, which would be the last band you would expect to hear at a Republican function.
The quick thinking Keyes went on the offensive with his reply, defending Moshing, pleading ignorance of the actual music that was playing. Here is some of what the former ambassador had to say about how Moshing is an extension of "Family Values".
"Admittedly, I was willing to fall into the mosh pit, but I'll tell you something. You know why I did that? Because I think that exemplifies the kind of trust in people that is the heart and soul of the Keyes campaign ... . And when you trust them, they will in fact hold you up."
Keyes
campaign got a boost when he came in an unexpected 3rd in the Iowa Caucus
last Tuesday. So the question remains, if Keyes by chance wins the nomination
and then the election in November, will there be a mosh pit at the inauguration?
